Dear colleagues,
I have decided to step down from my position as Chair of the Staff Council for Academic Employees (PRwiss) at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität (RFWU) with effect from 1 February 2023. I will remain a full member of the PRwiss and will take over the position of 1st Deputy Chair from 1 February 2023. Mrs Christina Schlösser was elected as the new Chairperson of the PRwiss of our university at the meeting of the PRwiss on 12 February. She will take office on 1 February 2023.
I would like to share with you the reasons that led to my decision.
I have been a full member of PRwiss for over 11 years now. Initially only partially exempted from work duties, I was first elected Chairperson of PRwiss in 2016. Following my election at the end of 2020, I was very happy to accept this office again in the current term of office in order to be there for you as your first point of contact and, together with the other members of the council, to stand up for the interests of academic employees and support you in all matters related to your workplace here at our RFWU.
However, there are only just over two and a half years left until I retire in November 2025 and I am convinced that it makes a lot of sense for this elective office to change during the course of the term. As my successor, Mrs Schlösser can now already set her own priorities and raise her profile until the next Staff Council election in June 2024.
I intend to remain a full member of the committee until my retirement and, as Deputy Chairman, will continue to be available to you as a contact person for your problems and suggestions.
I would like to thank you all very much for the trust you have placed in me.
With best regards,
Hans-Hubert Kirch
